JAKARTA - Russia attacked cities in Ukraine overnight with hundreds of drones and missile attacks targeting energy infrastructure. It was reported that 15 people were injured in the Russian attack.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 400 drones and one ballistic missile, primarily targeting Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, andANTsia -- three cities across Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukrainian officials reported two people were killed in a drone strike on the frontline city of Kupiansk.
The large-scale long-range attack targets energy infrastructure, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.
"We are now doing our best to recover everything in Kryvyi Rih, and the electricity supply will be restored throughout the day," he said.
The Air Force said it had shot down most of the drones, but 12 targets were hit by 57 drones and missiles.
Russia has stepped up attacks on cities across Ukraine this summer, routinely delivering hundreds of drones accompanied by ballistic missiles.
The attack was cited by US President Donald Trump this week as the reason for his decision to approve more weapons for Ukraine, including air defenses.
"Russia has not changed its strategy, and to effectively counter this terror, we need systemic defense strengthening: more air defenses, more interceptors (drones), more determination to make Russia feel our response," Zelenskyy wrote on Wednesday.
The head of military administration in the city of Kryvyi Rih in southeastern Ukraine, Oleksandr Vilkul, said Russian forces carried out further attacks with a missile and 28 drones.
He said electricity and water supplies had been disrupted in several areas.
A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured in the attack and is struggling for his life in hospital, added Vilkul.
In badminton and surrounding areas, eight people were injured, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Interior.
In Kharkiv, who is often the target of Russian attacks, Regional Governor Syniehubov said at least 17 explosions were recorded in a 20-minute drone strike that resulted in three people being injured.
Meanwhile, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the air defense unit had been in action in the capital for the time being, but there were no reports of casualties or damage.
Russia has killed thousands of civilians in attacks on Ukrainian cities since launching a full-scale invasion more than three years ago.
Moscow says civilian infrastructure such as the energy system is a legitimate target for helping Ukraine's war efforts. Ukraine has also launched long-range attacks on targets in Russia, although on a more limited scale.

As previously reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to continue to fight in Ukraine until the West meets his peace terms.
Putin was not affected by the threat of tougher sanctions from Donald Trump, and his territorial demands may be widespread as Russian forces progress, according to three sources close to the Kremlin.
Putin believes Russia's economy and military are strong enough to deal with additional action from the West, the source said.
On Monday, Trump expressed frustration over Putin's refusal to agree to a ceasefire and announced a wave of arms supplies to Ukraine, including the Patriot's land-to-air missile system.
Trump also threatened to impose further sanctions on Russia unless a peace agreement is reached in 50 days.
Three Russian sources, familiar with the Kremlin's high-level thinking, said Putin would not stop the war under Western pressure and believed Russia could bear further economic difficulties, including the threat of US tariffs targeting Russian oil buyers.
