Minister Budi Arie Hopes Cooperatives To Improve The Welfare Of Migrant Workers' Families

Minister of Cooperatives (Menkop) Budi Arie Setiadi emphasized that migrant workers after returning to the country must be organized and consolidated through cooperatives.

"Essentially, I hope they operate to improve the welfare of their families," Budi said after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Cooperatives and the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI), in Jakarta, Monday, July 14.

In fact, he continued, the program to form the Red and White Village/Kel Village Cooperative (Kopdes/Kel) will also create many jobs that migrant workers can take advantage of in their respective regions.

"The Red and White Village/Kel will need a lot of competent workers who can be filled by migrant workers who are already trained," said Budi.

He also agreed to equip them with knowledge, skills, and business networks, so that cooperatives formed are not only names, but really become a real and sustainable source of livelihood.

Budi Arie refers to April 11, 2025, in Surabaya, where the Prosperous Migrant Cooperative was born.

"A cooperative built by retired migrant workers. This is not just a symbol, but a strong message that the spirit of mutual cooperation and independence is still alive and continues to light up," explained the Coordinating Minister.

Meanwhile, Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers Abdul Kadir Karding said his party would synergize the Golden Migrant Village program throughout Indonesia with cooperatives.

"We will empower Indonesian migrant workers through cooperatives," said Karding.

Karding gave an example of the existence of around 300 entrepreneurs in Cirebon, where they have formed cooperatives for business development.

"We will form a cooperative in every area which is the pockets of migrant workers," said Karding.

On the same occasion, Minister of Manpower Yassierli said that his party is ready to hold a cooperative HR training program for the Red and White Kopdes/Kel, which is estimated to involve around 2 million workers.

"Because this program must have an impact on creating new jobs. This is an extraordinary collaboration," said the Minister of Manpower.
