Deputy Minister Of P2MI Invites Indonesian Diplomats To Unite Steps To Protect And Place Migrant Workers

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Christina Aryani met with a number of deputy ambassadors (Deputy Chief of Mission/DCM) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jakarta. The meeting aims to equalize perceptions and strengthen collaboration in efforts to deploy and protect Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

"So today we meet with several DCM and the contingents who will go to each placement country. I am trying to equalize the perception with diplomat friends that the migrant workers need to be taken care of together and collaboratively," said Christina in Jakarta, Monday, July 14.

Christina asked for the support of diplomats to carry out a market intelligence in the country where they are on duty. This is to identify job opportunities for PMI in a more targeted manner and according to the needs of the destination country.

"With coordination like this, we can be more specific about which country, what job is right, and what PMI can be placed. So that the target of opening more job opportunities abroad can be achieved," he continued.

The Deputy Minister of P2MI also encouraged diplomats to actively explore the potential of the work sector outside the domestic sector. According to him, this step is in line with the vision of Asta Cita Presiden Prabowo which encourages cross-ministerial and institutional synergies in opening up international job opportunities for Indonesian citizens.

Furthermore, Christina emphasized the importance of data integration between the system belonging to the Ministry of P2MI and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu). He said that the synchronization effort was being carried out between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Care and SiskoP2MI system which was managed by his party.

"This is already a process. In the near future there will be an MoU signing between Minister Karding and Minister Sugiono. Hopefully, we will know for sure how many Indonesian citizens, including PMI, in a country. Including the handling of the case will be more monitored, complete, and accessible systematically," he explained.

Christina hopes that this system will be able to accelerate the response to problems faced by migrant workers abroad, as well as increase the accuracy of data collection.

On the same occasion, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said the meeting was part of economic diplomacy and protection that became Indonesia's foreign political priority.

According to Judha, the synergy between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KP2MI will strengthen the safe and accountable placement process. One of them is by issuing the provisions for issuing job orders through Indonesian representatives abroad.

"This is the starting point of a safer placement process for our migrant workers," said Judha.

The meeting was attended by the Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Malaysia and India, as well as the Indonesian Consul General for the Kinabalu, Kuching, San Francisco, Melbourne, Sydney, Vienna, Toronto, and Ho Chi Minh City regions.
