BRIN Launches GANA, Indonesia's Cultural-Based Game Asset Platform

JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) launched the Nusantara Asset Game (GANA), a platform specifically designed to collect, manage and distribute games in the country.

This digital platform was developed to maintain game assets that can represent Indonesian culture. According to Ariani Indrawati's statement, Researcher for Research at the BRIN Data and Information Science Center (PRSDI), this infrastructure is important to answer the needs of local game developers.

"With the great potential of the game industry and abundant cultural wealth, it is necessary to build a supporting infrastructure capable of bridging the needs of local developers, especially in terms of providing game assets," said Ariani, quoted on Monday, July 14.

GANA has been developed since 2022. BRIN collaborates with many parties in developing this platform, some of which are universities majoring in Visual Communication Design (DKV).

"This collaboration is strengthened through the trade scheme and MBKM at BRIN which involves several students from Pasundan University, Multimedia Nusantara University, to Telkom University," explained Ariani.

Through this collaboration, there are a number of digital cultural assets that have been successfully developed. These assets include 2D and 3D objects such as traditional houses, traditional decorations, weapons, clothing, food, and fairy tale characters.

These assets are made to reflect the regions in Indonesia and the cultural diversity of their nation. The GANA platform can now be accessed online via the http://gana-prototype.brin.go.id site by game developers who need assets.

"We hope that GANA can be widely used and developed, both by researchers, industry players, the creative community and the government. In addition, it can become a national game asset distribution center that can encourage creative economic growth," explained Ariani.
