In The Aftermath Of The Viral Padel, The DPRD Proposes That The DKI Provincial Government Postpones The Imposition Of Taxes For All Game Sports

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission C of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Dimaz Raditya, proposed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government postpone the imposition of entertainment taxes on game sports in Jakarta.

This was conveyed after the viral discussion of tax imposition of 10 percent of the padel sports facilities. Where, the tax is also imposed on other sports.

"Later, I will discuss it with Mrs. Lusi as Head of Bapenda (DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency), is it appropriate to be treated now," Dimaz told reporters, Sunday, July 13.

Dimaz assessed that currently economic conditions are weakening and resulting in people's purchasing power to decline. Moreover, the government should support the increase in sports activities for the sake of public health.

This member of the Golkar faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD admitted that the sports activities that were rented were indeed subject to taxes on certain goods and services (PBJT) for arts and entertainment services, when referring to Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2021 concerning Regional Taxes and Levy.

However, local governments can determine when the entertainment sports tax will begin to be implemented.

"The 1/2024 regional regulation already exists. It's just a decision to start taxing or not depending on the local government itself," said Dimaz.

"When it has improved, people's purchasing power has improved, then we will tax it. I also don't know the potential of tax revenue from this sport at what percentage," he continued.

Moreover, according to Dimaz, the government does not only see the phenomenon of sports activities from padel, which are currently loved by middle class Jakarta residents only.

"We see that there are still many sports places that are still empty of visitors, not just padel. From the beginning of futsal, mini Soccer, soccer courts, badminton, everything will be taxed later," he explained.
