Exclusive Joshua Suherman: Release Childhood Imaji By Continuing To Work

JAKARTA - Actor and former child singer Joshua Suherman shared his experience playing Jojo's character in the horror film Spirit.

In this film, he must explore a fairly complex role, namely an eldest child who is under life pressure to fall into online gambling addiction.

"Oh yes, it's a matter of addiction to Jojo's character because of course I don't, I need to watch a lot, finally I watched videos of people discussing judol (online gambling), about anything. So yes, at most from there. Why do people want to make decisions that are actually clearly fooled by that, " Joshua Suherman told VOI, not long ago.

Joshua said that Jojo's character represented the psychological burden that was often felt by the first child, especially when they felt they had failed to meet family expectations.

"(The one who is related) Yes, yes, the first child has it as if he feels that he has to take full responsibility for his family and at that time it doesn't work he will feel he failed, if he is not appreciated he will feel that this world is like that," he said.

But behind all the pressure and mistakes made by Jojo's character, Joshua emphasized the strong human side such as the desire to stay back and be accepted by the family.

Through the shooting process for this film, Joshua also admitted that he had a meaningful life lesson, especially regarding relations between family members.

"From this film, there are many (learning), a lot like when we make a fuss with our younger brother who is looking for a solution, you know who is right, who is wrong with that," he said.

"So far I've been thinking you should know if I'm right you're wrong. But the point isn't that, the point is after knowing who's right, you don't get a prize, after knowing who's wrong, you're not punished either," he continued.

In the end, Joshua concluded that the most important thing in family conflict is not to find out who won or lost, but how to work together to find a solution.

"So what's more important is actually to find a way out together," he said.

Joshua Suherman, who has been known to the public since childhood as a child singer, finally opened his voice about his emotional journey to face the shadow of the past.

Joshua publicly admitted that he felt trapped in Joshua Suherman's identity, but now he has made peace with it.

"There has been a feeling like that (trapped in the figure of Joshua Suherman child), but it turns out that no one actually trapped it, it wasn't a trap either, so just make peace with that," said Joshua Suherman.

Joshua admits that there are still many people who know him only as a child star. This had irritated him, especially because he already had a lot of work outside of his childhood image.

"It's just that, there are people (who know only as Joshua Suherman, a child), at least they just talk," he said.

"It's just that at first there were phases, maybe it was like being annoyed because I was tired of hearing it because I felt like I had another work, wasn't it. It's just taking a long time, okay? That's the right of every human mind, I can't manage that," concluded Joshua.

Joshua revealed that in the past he had felt ashamed because he was known only from one work. But over time, he began to realize that the most important thing was the actions and works he produced now, not people's views on his past.

"Because in the past, maybe it was a shame, if for example what was his name, the person saw it, only from one work, it just got more and more came here thinking like it's okay, the important thing is not what people think is the important thing is what I'm doing now," he explained.

The transitional period from children to teenagers is also not easy for him. Change of voice and search for age-appropriate roles are a challenge in itself.

"What is it? At the age of age, it was a bit difficult because I wanted to sing the voice again pretending to be a teenager, I wanted to play the character film for children, not teenagers, which is not like that, that's the most. But the rest isn't there, just doing what I like," said Joshua.

Even so, Joshua emphasized that he did not feel the need to do extreme rebranding just to erase his childhood image. For him, being an adult is a natural process, and the most important thing is to keep working.

"Actually, there is no need (to rebrand yourself again), because who feels like these gentlemen, for example, these are children, they shouldn't exist. So I also don't do anything extreme so people forget anything related to my smallness or not," he said.
