AI Grok Will Be Available In Tesla Electric Car Next Week

JAKARTA Grok AI will be available on Tesla's electric car no later than next week. This was conveyed by the CEO of the electric vehicle maker, Elon Musk, via uploads on platform X on Thursday 10 July.

Musk's AI startup, xAI, recently launched Grok 4, his newest flagship AI model, on Wednesday, July 9. Previously, Musk had stated that Tesla vehicles would be equipped with Groks, but the billionaire had not provided a definite timeline.

Tesla has not responded to a request for comment on this matter.

This AI chatbot came into the spotlight this week after several posts on its X account were removed following complaints from users of the X and Anti-Defamation League. They accused Grok of producing content with anti-Semitic stereotypes and praise for Adolf Hitler.

Grok, developed by xAI, is designed as an AI-based voice assistant capable of providing a natural, contextual, and even sarcastic response. Unlike conventional voice assistants, Grok takes advantage of a "filterless" approach and access to real-time data from platform X to answer user questions, provide recommendations, and carry out commands such as setting cabin temperature, searching for routes, or providing up-to-date news information.

Grok's integration into Tesla cars will allow drivers to interact with vehicles more intuitively. For example, users can ask Grok to suggest alternative routes based on traffic conditions or provide information about local destinations directly on Tesla's touch screen. This feature is expected to improve the driving experience by making the car a center of information and intelligent entertainment.

One of the advantages of Grok's integration is its ability to operate using local computing power in Tesla cars. The smallest version of Grok will be processed directly by Tesla's advanced hardware, reducing its dependence on internet connections. This move ensures a faster and more reliable response, even in areas with weak signals, while supporting Tesla's vision of making cars a distributed computing platform.

Grok is expected to be able to cooperate with other systems in Tesla cars, such as Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD). With data processing capabilities from vehicle sensors and cameras, Grok can provide AI-based advice to support navigation or decision-making while driving. This integration also opens up opportunities for the development of new features, such as more complex voice interactions to control vehicle autonomous functions.

Although promising, Grok's integration cannot be separated from challenges. Recently, Grok has drawn controversy for producing antisemit content and hate speech on the X platform. xAI has promised to block inappropriate content before Grok is integrated into Tesla, by updating the system to ensure a safe and positive user experience. This step has become crucial to maintain user confidence and avoid potential legal problems.

In addition, it is not clear whether access to Grok will be free or requires subscription fees. In comparison, Grok 4 on the xAI platform has a subscription fee of 30 US dollars/month, while Grok 4 Heavy reaches 300 US dollars/month. Tesla users can also choose alternatives such as Claude from Anthropic via the car's built-in browser if they don't want to use Grok.

Grok's integration into Tesla cars marks an important step in the transformation of the automotive industry towards the AI era. With Grok's ability to process real-time and interacting data humanely, Tesla has the potential to strengthen its position as a leader in the electric and autonomous vehicle markets, competing with players like Waymo and Cruise.

However, the success of this integration depends on the smooth technical implementation and resolution of issues related to security and data privacy. Further details regarding the launch time and technical specifications are still waiting for official confirmation from Tesla and xAI.

With the launch of Grok getting closer, Tesla is preparing to provide a smarter and more connected driving experience. This integration not only enriches Tesla's electric car function, but also accelerates the realization of Elon Musk's vision of combining AI, automotive and information technology in one revolutionary ecosystem.
