Perplexity Launches Comet, AI-Based Advanced Browser
JAKARTA The Perplexity, a competitor to OpenAI, launched an interactive web browser called Comet. The company said that Comet was launched to change human interaction with the internet.
Like browsers in general, Comet is designed to provide diverse information. However, this Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered browser can provide a different experience by driving the transition from browsing to thinking.
"We are building a Comet so that the internet can do what it has long requested: strengthen our intelligence," Perplexity said in a statement, quoted on Thursday, July 10.
The AI company also states that context displacements in Comet are designed in a smart way. Instead of searching for websites one by one, users can search for sources from the desired topics by simply submitting commands.
Basically, Comet is indeed an AI assistant designed to explore internet content and find sources that can answer the user's mind. This browser is built on Chromium using Perplexity as its built-in search engine.

Comet is equipped with an AI assistant on its sidebar. This assistant can summarize pages, answer questions, and take quick action such as ordering hotels to buying products. That way, users don't have to switch apps just to access AI.
"Comet turned the whole search session into a single smooth interaction, tearing down a complicated workflow into a smooth conversation," explains Perplexity.
Comet has already launched, but is only available to Perplexity Max subscribers. Special access to invites will be rolled out gradually to users on the waiting list over the summer.
