Indonesian Foreign Minister Expects ASEAN-New Zealand Investment And Trade Relations To Continue To Be Developed

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono hopes that ASEAN's trade and investment relations with New Zealand will continue to be developed, exploring a new, more strategic collaboration.

Speaking at the ASEAN Meeting of the New Zealand Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday, Foreign Minister Sugiono praised the economic relations of both parties, referring to the existing cooperation mechanism.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister said that the ASEAN' Australia's New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) mechanism continues to be a stable pillar in strengthening regional trade and investment relations, according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thursday, July 10.

Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the importance of utilizing this positive momentum to explore new, more strategic forms of collaboration.

On this occasion, the Indonesian Foreign Minister also hoped that the Kiwi Country could support the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), which is currently in progress.

Later, DEFA will connect more than 680 million people and unlock the potential of the digital economy worth US$2 trillion by 2030.

"New Zealand's support in this collaboration will help build a secure and inclusive digital ecosystem in the region," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister.

He added that cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework (ABEF), especially in the field of sustainable fisheries, renewable energy and marine biotechnology, opens new opportunities for the growth of the region's blue economy.

This year, the partnership between ASEAN and New Zealand will be even 50 years old. Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized Indonesia's commitment to strengthening future-oriented cooperation. Both sides are exploring an increase in partnership status towards a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

"I look forward to the adoption of the Joint Vision Statement and the implementation of the 50th Anniversary of the Partnership Summit in October, as a new milestone towards stronger and more future-oriented ASEAN-New Zealand cooperation," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister.
