Yandy Laurens Expresses Music's Role In Building A Nuansa Film In The Afternoon: Wife From The Future
JAKARTA - Music is one of the important elements that makes the Film Sore: The Wife of the Future has won the hearts of many people. The presence of selected songs as a background brings scenes to life in it.
Director Yandy Laurens saw the importance of the role of music in the story and narrative that he conveyed. He shared the creative process of selecting songs that were carried out collaboratively.
"Before I started writing, I usually started to collect songs that were emotionally close to the story. I made a collaborative playlist on Spotify with producers, containing songs that represent the atmosphere of the film that we are working on," said Yandy in a press release received by VOI, July 10.
"When the right song meets the right moment in the story, the impact is extraordinary. Therefore, I am very grateful for the musicians whose work has become a 'wast' for me to collaborate and emphasize the story I want to tell," he added.
The director began to build a playlist of songs that represented the nuances of the film. One by one, another composition comes and completes the grooves with their respective depths.
"Usually I start from two or three songs that can capture the feel of the story. On the afternoon: Wife of the Future, the first songs that came in were 'Gaze' and 'Forget Jakarta' from Adhitia Sofyan. But over time, the playlist developed. Sometimes, it was Spotify's algorithm that brought me to unexpected songs and it turned out that when it was juxtaposed with the storyline, it was very interesting, for example Founded in Time and Pancarona from Bara Suara," explained Yandy.

The two songs of Bara Suara above, according to Yandy, have a complexity of feelings that resonate with him. Various feelings stored in this song were also presented to describe the contents of the main character's head.
"Although not all the moments in the film are inspired by songs, there is a musical power that helps me develop my story. I remember that time at the office during the pandemic, I was writing the middle part of the story, then suddenly the 'Pancarona' was twisted. I immediately stopped writing, continued to read the lyrics, and it turned out to be exactly the same that I was looking for," he said.
"The emotional feeling of doubt, confusion, and gray all represent the spirit of Sore. I immediately put the song into the script, complete with the timecode and visuals that will accompany it. Then, there is also the song Fund in Time which makes me immediately think about how one scene in the film can grow stronger and more emotionally," concluded Yandy Laurens.
