KPK Admits Investigating Mining Corruption In Eastern Indonesia After Requesting Arifin Tasrif's Information
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) admits that it is investigating allegations of corruption in the mining sector.
This was conveyed by the Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu when confirmed regarding the presence of former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif, Wednesday, July 9.
From field observations, Arifin left the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta at 17.56 WIB. He seemed accompanied by two of his legal advisers.
"(Regarding, red) mineral management in Eastern Indonesia. This is still an investigation, yes, the case," Asep told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.
Asep has not been able to detail the investigation into the alleged corruption in the mining sector. The process is usually carried out behind closed doors.
"I can't say yet, yes, this is still an investigation but in accordance with what was conveyed in question," he said.

Meanwhile, Arifin admitted that he had given an explanation to the KPK.
"There are no cases, actually, only under investigation," he said.
Arifin did not want to elaborate further on which area the KPK is investigating. However, he confirmed that the commodities being investigated were not related to coal and the allegations occurred in the 2024 period.
"Not (coal, red). Regarding minerals. (The area, red) will ask investigators later," concluded Arifin.
