Types Of Condoms That Can Be Used During Sexual Relations

JAKARTA - Condoms are contraceptives used to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (IMS) during sexual intercourse.

"Condom works by creating physical barriers that stop sperm from entering the vagina and reaching egg cells, and reducing the risk of infection transmission such as HIV, clamidia, and gonore," said IVF gynecologist and expert Dr. Shobha Gupta, quoted from Healthshots, on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

For safe sexual intercourse, there are various types of condoms that can be used and adapted to needs, as below.

1. Latex Condom

Thiscondom is made of rubber latex and is one of the most common types of condoms. The study states that male latex condoms rarely break out or are detached during sexual intercourse, making them very effective as a means of contraception.

2. Polyuretan Condoms

Polyuretancondoms are condoms made of thin and powerful plastic material. These condoms are an alternative for those suffering from latex allergies.

3. Women'scondoms

Not only men, women can also use condoms during sexual intercourse. This female conjecture is put in the vagina, which provides protection from pregnancy and IMS, without having to rely on male condoms.

Research published at BMC Public Health in 2020 states that the use of female condoms along with male condoms is more effective than using male condoms only to prevent IMS.

4. Texturalcondoms

This type of condom is used to further increase sexual sensation for both partners. This condom can stimulate the nerves in the vagina better than in textured condoms, thereby increasing the pleasure of sexual intercourse.
