Residential Settlement Of Kebon Pala Residents, Kampung Melayu, Returns To Floods Even Though They Had Recedede

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that the flood again submerged four RTs in the Kebon Pala II settlement, Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, which had previously receded on Monday, July 7, afternoon.

"It had receded, but the water entered the Kebon Pala area again, Kampung Melayu starting today at 03.00 WIB this morning," said Head of the East Jakarta BPBD Korwil Task Force, Tuesday, July 8.

The water level reaches 60 centimeters (cm) due to high intensity rain and overflowing of the Ciliwung River which passes to residential areas.

Then, on Monday, July 7 evening, at 19.00 WIB, Katulampa Dam also experienced an increase in status from standby 4 to standby 3 (90 cm).

"The cause of the flood or inundation since 03.00 until now is due to high rainfall and overflowing Ciliwung River," said Ali.

Residents of Kebon Pala have evacuated independently when the water slowly rose. Some residents also recently returned home and carried out cleaning activities after the evacuation.

Until now, they still choose to stay on the second floor of their respective homes, so no residents have been evacuated.

BPBD DKI Jakarta also continues to mobilize personnel to monitor inundation conditions in each region and coordinate elements of the Water Resources Service (SDA), the Highways Office, and the Gulkarmat Service to extract floods and puddles.

In addition, BPBD in the East Jakarta area is also trying to ensure that the water lines function properly together with the local village heads and sub-district heads.

One of the residents of Kebon Pala, Opik, admitted that he was worried that the volume of water would increase if it rained again. Several residents have also moved their vehicles to higher ground.

"I had receded completely dry yesterday (Monday) afternoon at four or five. Now it's rising again because the rain didn't stop. There were also a lot of people who mentioned before, then they came home, now they are going up again," said Opik.
