JAKARTA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will voice Indonesia's attitude and position as a "brogde-builder" when he first attended the 2025 BRICS Summit in Brazil.

The summit, which will be held on July 6-7, will carry the theme "Strengthening Global South Cooperation to a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance".

"President Prabowo, who is present for the first time, will use this opportunity to voice Indonesia's attitude and position as a "bridge-builder" on various global issues and collective efforts in the midst of increasingly uncertain world situations," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, as quoted on Sunday, July 5.

BRICS leaders will discuss a number of global political and security issues, such as prolonged conflicts in various regions, global governance reforms, and strengthening multilateralism.

In addition, the BRICS leaders will also raise various problems and opportunities for economic and economic cooperation, as well as other issues such as Artificial Intelligence governance, the environment, and climate action, as well as global health.

This summit is planned to be attended by more than 30 leaders of BRICS member countries, partner countries, special invitations, and the Chairman of the International Organization. Indonesia itself has become a full member of this economic cooperation group in early 2025.

"As a country that is a member of the Global South as well as a member of the G20, Indonesia will use the BRICS forum as a platform to fight for fairer and more inclusive global cooperation, as well as advancing national interests in various fields of economy, finance, education and technology," according to the ministry.

The summit this time is expected to produce Leaders Declaration which reflects the position and commitment of BRICS on political and security issues, economy and finance, as well as the sustainability of the involvement of various stakeholders within the framework of BRICS.

In addition to attending the BRICS Summit series, President Prabowo is also scheduled to hold a number of bilateral meetings to increase cooperation in various fields while in Rio de Janeiro.

BRICS is an international cooperation forum originally founded by Brazil, Russia, India, and the RRT in 2009.

In its development, South Africa joined in 2010, followed by Ethiopia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia in 2024.
