Trump: US Will Start Negotiations With China Regarding TikTok Deal
JAKARTA - The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that his government will start talks with China on Monday 7 July or Tuesday 8 July regarding the TikTok deal.
Trump mengungkapkan bahwa Amerika Serikat "basisnya" telah memiliki kesepakatan terkait penjualan aplikasi video pendek populer tersebut.
"I think we'll start talking on Monday or Tuesday... with China, maybe with President Xi (Jinping) or one of his representatives. But we've almost reached an agreement," Trump told reporters aboard the Air Force One presidential plane.
Last month, Trump extended the deadline for ByteDance, China-based parent company TikTok until September 17 to release TikTok assets in the United States.

Previously, an agreement was designed this spring to separate TikTok operations in the US from becoming a new US-based company, mostly owned and run by US investors. However, the deal was delayed after China said it would not approve it, following Trump's announcement of high import rates on Chinese goods.
Trump also said that the United States most likely should get approval from the Chinese government to continue the deal.
When asked how confident he was that China would agree to the deal, Trump replied, "I'm not sure, but I think so. President Xi and I have a good relationship, and I think this is good for them. I think this deal is good for China and also good for us."
