Impact Of Climate Change, DHF Cases In West Jakarta Increase

JAKARTA - The West Jakarta Health Office noted that cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) increased again in June 2025 with 256 cases.

Based on data from the West Jakarta Health Office (Sudinkes), fluctuations in dengue cases in the area show a spike every month starting October 2024 with 79 cases until May 2025 as many as 355 reported cases.

"In April 2025 326 cases, May 355 cases and June 256 cases. Meanwhile, as of Thursday (3/7) at 16.30 WIB there have been no reported cases," said Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Section of the West Jakarta Health Sub-dept., Arum Ambarsari, ANTARA, Friday, July 4.

Arum said that humidity and air temperature were the main factors for the escalation of dengue cases in the West Jakarta (Jakbar) area.

According to Arum, based on the predictions of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the local climate in June 2025 caused an increase in dengue cases.

"The climate for dengue fever in May 2025 is 77 percent, where the optimum humidity for mosquitoes is 71-83 percent. The temperature ranges from 25-32 deg C, while the average temperature for the development of mosquitoes ranges from 25 deg-27 degC," said Arum.

Therefore, said Arum, the incidence rate of dengue fever in July is predicted to reach 8.4 cases per 100,000 population, lower than the prediction in June, which is 8.7 cases per 100,000 population.

The West Jakarta Health Sub-dept. continues to intensify vector monitoring or larvae of dengue mosquitoes by carrying out mosquito larvae to people's homes through the Jentik Monitoring Officer (Jumantik).

"The monitoring is carried out by prioritizing the role of the community and improving health promotions on dengue fever," he said.
