Due To Leptospirosis, 101 People Died From January To June 2025

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Health reported the number of deaths from leptospiroris or diseases transmitted from animals to humans. During January to June 6, 2025, 101 people died from 787 cases of leptospirosis in Indonesia.

During January - June 6, 2025, 101 people have died from 787 cases of leptopirosis in Indonesia," said the Indonesian Ministry of Health, on its official Instagram, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

In this statement, the Indonesian Ministry of Health highlighted the leptospirosis that occurred mainly due to transmission from rat urine. The spread of this disease is increasing due to climate change that makes rain and floods that often occur throughout 2025.

Climate change makes the rain even more heavy and flooding more frequent. So, the leptospira bacteria from rat urinary are getting easier to spread," he explained.

There are 14 provinces in Indonesia that often experience cases of leptospirosis. Starting from Riau Islands, DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi.

Unfortunately, the symptoms of this disease are similar to those of other diseases, so patients do not realize and often come to internal hospitals that are already severe.

Therefore, the Ministry of Health reminded to be careful after doing activities in dirty puddles. If after doing activities in dirty puddles and experiencing fever, muscle aches, and yellow eyes, immediately go to the hospital.
