Regarding The Legalization Of Marijuana In Indonesia, Head Of BNN: Is It The Economy Or Health Goal?
Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Komjen Martinus Hukom conveyed a response regarding the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes.
The head of BNN said that this needed comprehensive and scientific considerations. According to him, the legalization of medical marijuana needs to be questioned for ethical motives, both related to economic and health goals.
"The moral questions will arise from there. What is the purpose of legalization? Is it the economic goal? Or is it the health goal ?," he said after the agenda for destroying drug evidence in Palmerah, West Jakarta, Wednesday, July 2, which was confiscated by Antara.

If economic goals, he said, what is the economic impact on legalization. "For health purposes, how much is needed and what kind of disease?," said Martinus.
Martinus explained, with these questions, it is necessary to carry out in-depth research related to the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
"You have to make empirical and scientific approaches to proving correctly that using marijuana treats this. Then there are consensus from several theories, some researchers," said Martinus.
Research, said Martinus, is also significant to be carried out because the motive for legalizing marijuana for medical purposes is partly based on individual testimonies that have recovered from the use of marijuana.
"We must not stand on myths, on the testimony of witnesses who say that 'I recovered because I used marijuana'. That's not methodological," said Martinus.
However, Martinus emphasized that legalizing medical marijuana is not his authority.
"Legalization of marijuana, yes I do not have my own authority, yes, it is not the BNN authority. That is the authority of the doctors, the Ministry of Health," said Martinus.
Martinus said that medical marijuana legalization research had begun in Indonesia. "We are starting and it takes one, we need a fee. Second, we need a process," he said.
Martinus also emphasized that the legalization of marijuana for medical purposes does not necessarily legitimize the use of marijuana freely.
"Even if there are research results, they say they can be medical, that doesn't mean they are legalized for all kinds of users," he said.
Because it must be framed medically, it means that there are records of medical experts. "It is not legalized for everyone to be allowed to use it," he said.
