Water Boiling Leaves For Kidneys Can Be Dangerous, Not Healing
JAKARTA - Many people believe herbal ingredients, especially leaf boiled water, can be a natural solution to clean the kidneys. However, this belief can actually be misleading.
According to experts, the use of herbal ingredients without the right dose and research has the potential to damage the kidneys because it can contain nephrotoxic compounds that poison the kidneys.
An urologist specialist, dr. Sigit Sholichin, Sp.U, FICRS, reminded that herbal drinks that are claimed to be able to "clean up" the kidneys can have the opposite effect.
In a discussion on kidney transplantation in Jakarta, he emphasized that natural ingredients such as leaves that are boiled without a clear dose standard have the potential to damage the kidney organs.
"In fact, it can be dangerous. The concoction of boiled and drunk leaves can contain toxic components for the kidneys, especially if there is no right dose or dose," said dr. Sigit, as quoted by ANTARA.
He explained that treatment of herbs without medical supervision can pose a big risk, because there are no standard standards related to the amount of leaves, the amount of water, and the length of erosion. All of this affects the concentration of active substances in the ingredients, which if excessive can cause kidney damage.
In addition to using herbs without supervision, dr. Sigit also highlighted the dangers of consuming excessive pain relievers. He said that one of the common causes of kidney failure is long-term consumption of drugs such as analgesics, especially without a doctor's prescription or control.

He gave an example of the case of a 28-year-old patient who experienced kidney failure due to taking headaches for a long time.
"The patient experiences chronic headaches and often takes pain relievers. Without realizing it, it causes permanent damage to his kidneys," he said.
Treatment relievers, according to him, should not be consumed continuously for more than two weeks. If the pain does not go away, it is important to carry out a thorough medical examination to find out the real cause.
Dr. Sigit also reminded the importance of recognizing signs of early kidney failure. One of the indications is the drastic decrease in urine production. Follow-up symptoms can be in the form of body swelling and nausea due to increased levels of urea in the blood (uremia).
"If you start to urinate a little, your body feels swollen, and nausea arises, it could be a symptom of advanced kidney failure," he explained.
He emphasized that the most common cause of kidney failure is complications from chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. However, lifestyle factors, including excessive drug consumption and unsupervised use of herbs, also play a major role.
