The Minister Of Public Works Ensures That The Renovation Of Phase I People's Schools Will Be Completed In July

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo confirmed that the completion of the renovation and construction of the Phase I People's School will be completed in July 2025.

"We continue to ensure that the renovation progress runs according to schedule. Nationally, the renovation of Phase I People's Schools has reached 83 percent. Especially for People's Schools at the Handayani Center, East Jakarta, the physical progress has reached 92 percent. The other locations averaged 88 to 90 percent," said Dody as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 30.

This strategic project is a follow-up to Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2025 which aims to provide quality education for Indonesian children, especially from poor and extreme poor families.

The Ministry of Public Works through the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure has allocated a budget of around Rp. 1 trillion for the renovation of 200 Phase I People's School points spread throughout Indonesia. In addition, the Ministry of Public Works is also preparing for the construction of the Phase II People's School.

"For Phase II People's Schools, we are verifying the feasibility of location one by one, which will absorb thousands of workers," said Dody.

He also revealed that the biggest challenge in this project is the procurement ofcustomized furniture, which takes longer than physical processes.

"To accelerate Phase II, we even started the procurement of furniture earlier before physical development was carried out," he said.

The government through the Ministry of Social Affairs is preparing to launch the People's School program, a boarding education initiative initiated directly by President Prabowo Subianto. This program is aimed at children from poor families with the main aim of breaking the chain of poverty and opening up a brighter future for the small people.

The launch of the People's School is planned to start in the 2025/2026 school year. President Prabowo targets 53 out of a total of 200 People's Schools to operate in stages starting July 2025. This program is regulated in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2025 concerning Optimization of the Implementation of Poverty Reduction and Elimination of Extreme Poverty.
