Separated From The Group, Malaysian Foreigners Survived After Being Dragged By The Current In Gili Lawa

LABUAN BAJO A foreign citizen (WNA) from Malaysia named Amirah Bazil (35) was reported missing after being dragged by the ocean while diving in Gili Lawa waters, Komodo National Park (TNK), West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Sunday, July 29.

Head of the Maumere SAR Office, Fathur Rahman, confirmed the incident. According to him, the victim was separated from a group of tourists during a dive activity at around 06.45 WITA.

"The victim was dragged by the ocean current until it was separated and reported missing. The report was received by the West Manggarai SAR Post and immediately followed up with a search operation," Fathur said when contacted from Labuan Bajo, Antara, Sunday, July 29.

The joint SAR team was immediately dispatched to the location using the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) ship belonging to the West Manggarai SAR Post.

Shortly after the search was carried out, the SAR Team received information from the crew of the Sea More Papua ship the victim was carrying that the victim had been found safe.

The victim was found by the Fenidea speedboat crew who was passing around Gili Lawa Island. He was carried by the current to the shore, explained Fathur.

Luckily, the victim was found in good health and decided to continue his tourist activities in the Labuan Bajo area.

This SAR operation is a form of humanitarian synergy by the joint SAR team, including the Fenidea speedboat crew who first found the victim, concluded Fathur.
