Indomobil Holds Airbag Replacement Program For Old Jeep Model, Takata Airbag Problem?

PT Indomobil National Distribution has officially become the sole agent of brand holder (ATPM) from Jeep in Indonesia since late 2024.

For the first time holding this iconic brand, the company made a breakthrough by launching Wrangler 4-door in April this year for IDR 2.389 billion On The Road Jakarta.

Not only offering products, but Indomobil also expressed its concern to old Jeep customers or owners by announcing changing airbags for free.

Aftersales Department Head of PT Indomobil National Distribution, Andry Octavianus said this is a program for Jeep users and can make changes for free.

"The change of airbag is one of the programs for all Jeep users," said Andry when met by the media at PIK, Jakarta, Thursday, June 26.

Furthermore, he added that the owner could visit the official Jeep website and enter a frame number to find out whether the vehicle was affected by airbag problems or not.

"For details, it can be seen on our website, just enter the frame number whether the consumer can replace the airbag or not. Especially for the owner of the past model," added Andry.

To find out more, Jeep owners in Indonesia can open the official Jeep-id.com page and choose the "Service" option.

Kemudian, pemilik Jeep dapat mengklik "Recall Information" yang kemudian diarahkan ke laman https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html untuk memeriksa nomor rangka kendaraan.

Although the company did not provide further information, this is Stellantis' recall program against the old Jeep model that uses Takata airbag as written on the page.

This recall not only involves global Jeep models, but also other Stellantis Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT, Alfa Romeo brands and others.

About a decade ago, Takata shocked the global automotive universe because it caused the world's largest recall process a few years ago.

There were 30 deaths from this airbag with 26 of them in the US region. In 2009, this component of Takata caused hundreds of victims to be injured from a number of vehicles from various brands.

In the past decade, more than 100 million vehicles consisting of more than 20 brands of vehicles in the world equipped with Takata airbag inflators have been bulk recalled.

Due to the problems that hit the airbag, supplier Takata was declared bankrupt in 2018 and several executives were charged with the case.
