Deputy Head Of Commission IV Of The DPR Asks Law Enforcers To Investigate The Issue Of Sales Of The Island Of The Republic Of Indonesia On Foreign Sites

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission IV of the House of Representatives Alex Indra Lukman urged law enforcement officials to immediately act decisively on information on the sale of four islands in Anambas Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri) that appeared on the Private Islands Online website.

He said the issue of selling Indonesian-owned islands interfered with state sovereignty.

"Debates about whether or not can be sold and other administrative technical matters, now this is not urgent. In fact, today is information on the sale of islands in our sovereign territory. This is wrong," said Alex Indra Lukman, Tuesday, June 24.

"Law enforcement officials must act quickly to follow up on this initial information," said the PDIP legislator.

Alex asked the authorities not to remain silent in responding to the issue of many Indonesian islands being sold on foreign online sites. He considered that law enforcement should not have difficulty tracing the information, especially now that cyber crime units are available in police institutions.

"Of course there are owners and addresses. Just need to call and ask who ordered the installation of this sales information," said Alex.

The leadership of the Commission in the DPR in charge of marine affairs, including coastal areas and islands, emphasized that the initial findings should be sufficient as a basis for investigators to continue the legal process. Alex said there should be no more debate regarding this matter.

"If you continue to argue about regulations, it seems that there is an attempt to obscure this initial information in an information chain that is getting darker to the end until it finally evaporates unaffected," he said.

Alex said that the discovery of the sale of Indonesian islands on foreign sites was not the first time this had happened. He revealed that in 2021, the same site also lists A-Frames Island located in Mentawai Islands Regency, West Sumatra, as a sold island.

At that time, the site contained a photo of A-Frames Island, which is said to be one of the most beautiful surfing islands in the world, complete with a location description, which is 25 km north of Tua-Pejat, the capital city of Mentawai Regency, and can be accessed by water taxis within 25 minutes.

In the same year, eight other islands in Indonesia were also marketed through the site, namely Tojo Una Una Una Island, Ayam Island, Gili Tangkong Island, Panjang Island, Kembung Island, Yudan Island, Sumba Island, and Gili Nanggu Island. Everything is displayed with photos, but without definite price information or only written price according to request.

"In 2025, the site will again do the same thing. Apart from the island in Anambas, the page also lists other islands offered to potential enthusiasts," explained Alex.

Therefore, Alex emphasized that cases like this should not be allowed to continue and must take firm action.

"Has the case this time evaporated again as happened in 2021? If so, of course we really become a nation of forgetfulness," concluded Alex.
