Attending The Gratitude Of Meriyati Hoegeng's 100th Anniversary, Puan Alludes To The Exemplary Of The Official's Wife
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, attended the celebration of Meriyati Roeslani's 100th Anniversary, the wife of the legendary National Police Chief, General (Ret.) Hoegeng Iman Santoso in the Margonda area, Depok, West Java, Monday, June 23.
Puan was present with the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri. She was accompanied by a number of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, including Ribka Tjiptaning, Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR RI My Esti Wijayanti, and Member of Commission VI DPR RI Sadarestuwati. The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo was also present.
According to Puan, Meriyati Roeslani, who is familiarly called Mrs. Meri, is a simple and modest figure. Meriyati is also called a loyal wife who accompanied General Hoegeng during his lifetime.
"Mrs. Hoegeng is not only the wife of an official, but also the guardian of noble values in the family. She accompanied General Hoegeng with sincerity, and became an example for all of us," said Puan.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture said that Meriyati also supports General Hoegeng to stay simple and not corrupt. This, said Puan, is the values of life that will continue to be relevant to the current generation.
"Mother Meriyati's courage to stay modest in the midst of power is something that should be imitated," said Puan.
"His support for Mr. Hoegeng to become a professional and uncompromising police officer against bribery and corruption is a big lesson for the current generation. We need more figures like him," he added.

In the event, Puan and Megawati also enlivened the event by singing with Andi Mariam Matalatta's song "See You Again" and "Congratulations" from Cliff Richard.
On the same occasion, Puan also received Meriyati's signature in her book entitled 'Meriyati Hoegeng-100 Years of Loyalty Steps'. The book tells about Meri Hoegeng's life journey in accompanying General Hoegeng.
It is known, General Hoegeng is a legendary police figure who is known as a role model police officer, honest, humble and with a patriot spirit. General Hoegeng was the 5th National Police Chief in the period 1968-1971.
