Waka DPRD Bali Agrees Member Of The Proposal Council Tajen Sabung Chicken Is Legalized

DENPASAR - Deputy Chairperson (Waka) of the Bali DPRD I Wayan Disel Astawa expressed his agreement and positive response with the opinion of a number of local council members who proposed that the hajn or cockfighting be legalized because it was considered that this activity actually brought economic benefits to Bali.

"The benefits are even greater for development for Bali, right, like DKI Jakarta, there was no toll road with a casino opening, there was improvement here and there, construction," he said after the Bali DPRD Plenary Session in Denpasar, Monday, June 23.

According to Astawa, Bali wants to feel the same impact as DKI Jakarta, by utilizing the tajen.

"Regarding the general, looking at the situation in this kind of condition, we returned to the time when the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pak Ali Sadikin, they dared to build a casino, why not in Bali, there is a local genius we are cultural attractions," he said.

The deputy chairman of the Bali DPRD linked the proposed cockfighting legally to the rioting case that claimed lives in the cockfighting arena in Songan A Village, Kintamani, Bangli, on Saturday (14/6).

According to him, legalizing cockfighting will reduce the potential for crime, but currently the proposal is still being studied.

"I think in my view it's normal, so our proposal together rather than being legalized now, but he (the chicken tube) exists, and if we legalize it it will reduce the impact of criminalization that has occurred," he said.

Asked about the cockfighting that has been run by the public with the concept of money betting, Astawa said that his party would ask the central government for permission and confirm if there were any limiting rules.

"Yes, we also have permission to go to the center because there is a Criminal Code, is it true or not, we open and surgery," he said, quoted by ANTARA.

Previously, a number of members of the Bali DPRD expressed the same opinion to regulate tajen by legalizing it as a cultural tourism attraction.
