TNI Ensures Safe Situation After Bomb Threat, Saudi Aviation SV5688 Continues Again
After the bomb threat incident against the Saudia Arabia Airlines SV5688 aircraft, the Indonesian security authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and security.
The swift steps of various security elements, including the TNI and Polri, are the main keys in handling the incident in order to ensure the safety of the pilgrims and maintain national stability from potential disturbances in terrorism.
The plane carrying Indonesian pilgrims from Jeddah to Surabaya had made an emergency landing at Kualanamu International Airport, North Sumatra, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, after receiving information about a bomb threat. The landing took place safely at 09.30 WIB. A total of 376 passengers (consisting of 196 men and 180 women) along with 11 crews were evacuated to the sterile zone for intensive examination.
As of 17.15 WIB on the same day, a joint team from the TNI, Polri, and related agencies had completed a thorough sweeping of the aircraft and its surroundings. As a result, no suspicious objects or explosives were found indicating a real threat.

Head of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Information Center (Kapuspen) Maj. Gen. Kristomei Sianturi, in a press statement at Cilangkap on Sunday, June 22, 2025, said that the plane had been dispatched back to Juanda Airport, Surabaya.
"Alhamdulillah, after all security procedures were completed completely and declared safe, the SV5688 aircraft continued the flight at 04.19 WIB under controlled and safe conditions. This is the fruit of fast cooperation and coordinative security elements," he said.
He added that the TNI's preparedness will continue to be strengthened to ensure the safety of the community, including the pilgrims who are an important part of the state's responsibility.
This operation, he continued, is part of Military Operations Apart from War (OMSP), as stated in Article 7 paragraph (2) letter b number 3 of Law Number 3 of 2025 concerning Amendments to TNI Law Number 34 of 2004.
This handling reflects the presence of the state in an emergency. We will continue to be alert and synergize with all security elements to anticipate any potential threats to the safety of the people and the sovereignty of the country," said Kristomei.
The response and structured steps taken by the TNI are a concrete form of protection for the community, as well as an effort to strengthen the civil defense system against various scenarios of non-military threats, including acts of terror.
