Samsung Prepares New Earthquake Warning System, Claimed To Be More Accurate Than Google's
JAKARTA - Samsung is developing a new earthquake warning system that will be present at the One UI 8 interface based on Android 16. This system is predicted to be able to provide faster and more accurate warnings than Google's systems currently used on many Android phones, including Galaxy devices.
So far, Google's earthquake warning system has used the built-in accelerometer on mobile phones to detect vibrations. However, this approach has limitations, especially in terms of accuracy and risk of the emergence of false warnings due to other vibrations that are not earthquakes.
Samsung is trying to present a more sophisticated solution. Based on leaks from Galaxy Techie, this new system will use a two-source data approach: in addition to the accelerometer on mobile phones, Samsung will also combine it with data from the official seismic monitoring center. This integration is expected to provide an early warning and more accurate for users, especially in earthquake-prone areas.
This approach offers two main advantages. First, by leveraging a professional seismological network that has high sensitivity, the system can detect seismic activity before the vibration reaches the surface, providing additional time for users to take rescue action.
Second, cross-validation between accelerometer data and official data will reduce the risk of false warnings, as sometimes occurs when relying solely on cell phone sensors.

Even so, Google's system remains an important feature and has been shown to provide valuable warnings seconds before a major earthquake occurs. This Samsung initiative aims to perfect the existing system, not replace it in total, by adding a layer of verification and additional speed.
There is still not much technical information revealed, and the effectiveness of this system will depend on the density and coverage of official seismic networks in an area. However, this step demonstrates Samsung's serious commitment to prioritizing user safety through technological innovation.
One UI 8 is expected to be launched simultaneously with Android 16 in the next few months. We look forward to how the Samsung earthquake warning system will work real when it is officially released.
