Deputy Minister Of Industry Emphasizes Medical Devices Industry For Import Substitutions And Increases P3DN

Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza encourages the domestic medical device (Alkes) industry to strengthen import substitution, create jobs, facilitate technology transfer and encourage increased use of domestic products (P3DN).

Faisol said that domestic medical device needs are projected to continue to increase, driven by population growth, epidemiological dynamics and expansion of health care facilities. However, currently these tools are still dominated by imported products.

Like ventilator products, which are currently among the top 10 highest import-valued medical devices, which in 2024 were recorded at US$68.4 million, up double compared to the previous year.

Therefore, Faisol appreciates the launch of the ventilator production facility carried out by PT Dr! Indonesia in Bekasi, West Java, Thursday, June 19.

"I congratulate PT Dr wayger Indonesia, because the investment made not only shows confidence in the potential of the Indonesian market, but is also a real contribution in strengthening the foundation of the independence of the national medical device industry," said Faisol as quoted from his written statement, Friday, June 20.

Faisol said that the current performance of the Indonesian manufacturing industry sector shows positive achievements. Based on data from the World Bank and United Nations Statistics, the value of Indonesia's Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) in 2023 reached 255.96 billion US dollars, which places Indonesia in 12th place in the world and 5th in ASEAN.

Meanwhile, based on BPS data, the non-oil and gas processing industry sector recorded a contribution of 17.50 percent to GDP in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 17.47 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

This data shows that Indonesia's manufacturing sector is also still listed as the main sector that supports economic growth, job creation and national export performance.

"I hope that from collaboration between stakeholders and industry players, it will trigger the birth of more investment, innovation and synergy to support the resilience of the national health industry," he concluded.
