Police Arrest Fraudsters In Baby Adoption Mode In West Jakarta

The police managed to uncover a case of fraud with the mode of adoption of a baby by a woman with the initials AU (38). The perpetrator was arrested by members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Palmerah Police when he was about to return to carry out his actions at a hospital in the Palmerah area, West Jakarta.

Palmerah Police Chief, Kompol Eko Adi Setiawan, explained that the perpetrator offered assistance in the baby adoption process to the victims with the lure of low fees. The suspect claims to be able to take care of adoption only by paying administrative costs and childbirth.

"Both of them were tempted by the perpetrator's sweet promise which claimed to be able to help the baby adoption process by only paying administrative and childbirth costs," said Kompol Eko when confirmed on Thursday (19/6/2025).

The first case was reported by the victim with the initials JH, which occurred on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at around 13.40 WIB. The victim handed over Rp 5.4 million in cash to the perpetrator, who argued for administrative costs. After receiving the money, the perpetrator pretended to go to the cashier, but never came back, leaving the victim waiting without clarity.

The second victim, with the initials HI, experienced a similar incident on Sunday night, June 8, 2025. He handed over Rp 5 million for the cost of giving birth and issuing babies from the hospital. Just like before, the perpetrator immediately disappeared after receiving the money.

Pengakuan dan Penyidikan Dari hasil penyelidikan dan keterangan sejumlah saksi, termasuk petugas keamanan rumah sakit, diketahui bahwa AU telah melakukan aksinya di lokasi yang sama sebanyak lima kali. Namun, sejauh ini baru dua korban yang melaporkan ke pihak kepolisian.

Evidence and Legal Processes of AU Perpetrators have now been secured at the Palmerah Police Headquarters along with evidence related to the case. The police charged the suspect under Article 378 of the Criminal Code on Fraud, which could be subject to imprisonment.
