Komdigi Welcomes EDGNEX's Investment In Data Center Development

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) welcomes a large investment of US$2.3 billion (around Rp37 trillion) by the EDGNEX company from Dubai for the construction of a jumbo-scale data center in Indonesia.

"The data center is part of the backbone of Indonesia's digital transformation. We view EDGNEX's presence as a positive signal of increasing global investor confidence in the digital ecosystem in the country," Meutya said in her official broadcast.

EDGNEX investment will be used to build modern data center infrastructure on an area of 12 hectares in the Cikarang industrial area, West Java.

The initial phase of the project is targeted to be completed in 2026 and will continue to grow until 2028. According to Komdigi, the capacity of the national data center at the beginning of the government's tenure is still at 180 megawatts (MW). Now it has increased to 290 MW.

In comparison, Malaysia's data center capacity is around 400 MW. However, Indonesia moved quickly: based on the land ready to build (land clearing) data that has been monitored, the national capacity is projected to increase to 900 MW by the end of 2025.

The rapid increase in capacity indicates that Indonesia is pursuing a strategic position in the region. This must continue to be accelerated," continued Meutya.

The government will continue to open up as wide as possible new investment opportunities, given the projected need for Indonesia's data center which is estimated to reach 1.5 to 2 gigawatts (GW) in the next two years.

Previously, Komdigi had also inaugurated the most advanced AI-based data center in Southeast Asia which was built by a local company, DCI Indonesia, in the Cibitung area.
