Trump: Real End Is Better Than Israel-Iran Armistice
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump said he was looking for a "real end" to the conflict with Israel and Iran. According to Trump it was better than a ceasefire while also suggesting the possibility of turning over' entirely to negotiations.
When asked what was better than a ceasefire, Trump said "the end, the real end, not a ceasefire. The end. Or give up completely. That's okay too."
Trump hopes that in the next 48 hours he will reveal more about whether Israel plans to slow down or accelerate its attacks on Iran.
"You will find out. Nothing has slowed down so far," Trump told reporters at Air Force One,
Trump plans to meet his national security team at the Situation Room on Tuesday, June 17.
When asked if US involvement militarily would ensure the destruction of Iran's nuclear program, Trump said "I hope their program will be abolished long before that. They will not have nuclear weapons."
Trump also talked about the reasons behind his call to leave Tehran immediately. He said there was no specific threat, but it was safer for people to flee given the situation on the ground.
"I want people to be safe. There's always a possibility something can happen. I just want people to be safe," he said.
In addition, Trump said he was not worried about troops or assets in the conflict area. Trump stressed that the US would act very harshly if Iran 'touched' them.
