Puan To The Indonesian Diaspora In The US, Emphasizes Unity In The Middle Of A Global Situation

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, met with the Indonesian diaspora which lives in the San Francisco, California, and surrounding areas of the United States. During the meeting, Puan mentioned the issue of unity in the midst of the global situation which has recently become increasingly challenging.

"We are a big family who even though we live outside but show that we still exist. This also reflects that wherever we are, never forget our roots as Indonesians," said Puan in her statement, Monday, June 16.

Puan also detailed global challenges that need attention and need the unity of all citizens. Namely the occurrence of war in a number of countries, to the world economic turmoil.

"Don't let it later affect us, especially our country in Indonesia. And that can only happen if we are always united, if we are always together, and always prioritize our identity as Indonesians," said Puan.

Puan said, with 280 million people and 17 thousand islands, Indonesia is a big country. Unfortunately, he said, there are still various dynamics faced by Indonesia.

"It's hard if we don't unite, people still see us as small. So people will only be able to see us big if we are together, if we unite. This must always be our guide," said Puan.

Puan also assessed that Indonesia must continue to maintain a political situation. So that global dynamics does not affect the economic situation which will have an impact on the people.

"Therefore we in the DPR RI are trying to be able to maintain this situation. Do not let the political situation later harm the people," concluded Puan.

The dialogue event with a number of diaspora or Indonesian citizens living in the California area and its surroundings was held by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) San Francisco, Saturday, June 14, evening local time. Puan was invited by the Indonesian Consul General (Konjen) in San Francisco, Prasetyo Hadi and his staff on the sidelines of his working visit.

In this event, Puan was accompanied by the Chairman of Commission V DPR Lasarus, Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR Evita Nursanty, Deputy Chairman of Commission IX DPR Charles Honoris, Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR Maria Yohana Esti Wijayati, Deputy Chairman of Commission XI DPR RI Dolfie OFP, and Member of Commission VI DPR Mufti Anam. Also present were Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti.
