Six Fishermen Arrested For Using Fish Bombs In The Waters Of Pulau Bisa

TERNATE - The Lidik Team for the Gakkum Sub-Directorate of the North Maluku Police Polairud Directorate arrested six fishermen suspected of fishing using explosives or fish bombs in the waters of Bisa Island, South Halmahera.

"The team managed to secure six people along with evidence, including explosives used to catch fish," said Head of Public Relations of the North Maluku Police, Kombes Pol Bambang Suharyono, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 16.

The arrests were made by the Gakkum Sub-Directorate investigation team after detecting suspicious activity around the waters of Pulau Bisa.

Officers found a longboat that had just completed illegal fishing activities using explosives.

The six alleged perpetrators each had the initials MM (the head of the group), LOH, ALS, SLH, LAAB, and S. They are suspected of carrying out fishing practices in a destructive manner using explosives.

From the scene of the incident, the police secured a number of pieces of evidence, including one longboat unit with a 15 PK engine, one diving compressor unit along with a 70 meter long hose, three pairs of diving glasses, two drakors, one pair of diving fins (fins), and 50 kilograms of fish suspected of being the result of illegal fishing.

For their actions, the perpetrators are suspected of violating Article 84 paragraph (1) of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 45 of 2009 concerning Fisheries in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code, which regulates the prohibition of the use of explosives and fishing gear that can damage marine ecosystems.

Currently, the suspects along with evidence have been secured at the KP XXX-2006 BKO Post in the South Halmahera area to undergo an initial examination.

"Furthermore, the suspects and all the evidence will be brought to the Gakkum Sub-Directorate Office for further investigation," said the Head of Public Relations.
