Riau Quarantine Destroys 25.9 Tons Of Illegal Mangga From Thailand

JAKARTA - The Bengkalis Port Service Unit, the Riau Province Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center destroyed 25.9 tons of illegal mango from Thailand as a result of the capture of the Customs Marine Patrol Task Force by burning and hoarding.

Head of the Center for Animal, Fish, and Riau Plant Quarantine, Turhadi Noerrachman, led the destruction of the Pakning River Customs and Excise Office, Bukit Batu, Bengkalis Regency.

He said the catch of this mango was transported by KM Julia II allegedly from Malaysia and was arrested in the waters of Bambang, Bengkalis Regency, Riau on May 21.

"This is actually a form of synergy between Quarantine and Customs and Excise. With this destruction, Riau Quarantine is at the forefront of national food security while protecting domestic agriculture from the threat of pests and plant disease while saving the community from the potential of contamination that may be carried away by mangoes whose health is not guaranteed," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 12.

Turhadi explained that the requirement for the income of mangoes into Indonesian territory must be equipped with a "Phytosanitary Certificate" from the country of origin, through a designated and fulfilled income place to quarantine officers.

The inclusion of mangoes is not in accordance with the laws and regulations in the field of quarantine because these mangoes are an undetermined income point for imported fruit, so this mango is destroyed.

This quarantine action in the form of extermination is called a form of firm action by the Indonesian Quarantine Agency in preventing the entry and spread of quarantine plant disruption organisms (OPTK) from abroad that can disrupt food security for the community.

Based on data from Riau Quarantine Law Enforcement, throughout 2025 a total of 64.8 tons of mangoes were destroyed. The details of 23.29 tons were destroyed in the Dumai Port Service Unit, 15 tons were destroyed in the Tembilahan Port Service Unit, and 25.9 tons were destroyed at the Bengkalis Port Service Unit.

The criminal threat that violates the import requirements is in accordance with Article 86 of Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine, which is a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and a maximum fine of IDR 10 billion.

Head of the Customs Supervision and Service Office (KPPBC) Type Madya Customs (TMP) C Bengkalis Agoes Widodo revealed that for now the owner of KMP Julia II is being investigated.

"The suspect was not found, because when the arrest by the ship's team was found in a dwindling position in the waters of Bambang, regarding the absence of a suspect because the crew had fled, except for his arrest in the waters as we had previously done there were suspects," said Agoes.
