After Long Absence Due To Injury, Anthony Ginting Will Appear At The 2025 Japan Open
JAKARTA - Indonesian men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is scheduled to return to the field at the Japan Open 2025 tournament after recovering a shoulder injury for nearly six months.
Pelatnas PBSI Men's Singles Head Coach Indra Widjaja confirmed Ginting was in a normal training condition and his name had been registered for the tournament held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on July 15'20.
"We have entered the name (to the Japan Open). The exercise is also normal. We just have to hope that the injury doesn't come back again," said Indra in Jakarta, Friday.
The bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics last appeared in an official tournament at the Malaysia Open, last January, before being withdrawn from a number of tournaments due to a right shoulder injury.
Ginting has even been proposed to get world ranking protection to maintain his position in the midst of a long absence.
According to Indra, Ginting is now starting to undergo an intensive training program, including honing the overhead and smash hitting techniques that were previously limited.
"Yesterday full training was also good. The physical is okay. But he was not allowed to smash, he couldn't raise his hand. Now everything has started to try," he said.

After the Indonesia Open this week, the world's elite athletes have a hiatus several weeks before returning to the next BWF tournament series, including the China Open (2227 July) and the Macau Open (29 July 3 August).
Indra said the coaching team will continue to monitor Ginting's condition in the next two to three weeks to determine the readiness to compete.
If it's safe, I'll play the Japan Open. But as bad as it is, go back to the Macau Open. There we can try too, because Ginting hasn't competed for a long time. Need recovery feelings too," said Indra.
At the Indonesia Open 2025, Ginting's absence made the main men's singles strength rest on Alwi Farhan and two players who recently left the PBSi National Training Center Jonatan Christie and Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo. They have all left the Indonesia Open 2025.
Chico stopped in the first half, while Alwi and Jojo, Jonatan Christie's nickname, lost in the second half.
This result extends the drought of the men's singles title in the Indonesia Open after the last time the champion won in the 2012 edition through Simon Santoso.
