IBM Emphasizes The Importance Of Collaboration In Cybersecurity, Not Just The Task Of The Government

JAKARTA - In the midst of technological onslaught, cybersecurity is certainly an important aspect that needs to be considered. However, maintaining cybersecurity in the digital space is not only the task of the government, but the task of all sectors, both public and private.

The number of cyber violations that occur around the world, including Indonesia, then raises the question, why does the government not invest more in this sector?

However, General Manager & Technology Leader, IBM ASEAN, Catherine Lian emphasized that this is a complex problem, and is not only caused by the financial situation of a country.

To answer this question, Catherine outlined the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector and the public in maintaining data security on a national scale.

"Cybersecurity is a journey in every organization. Cybersecurity is not something that the government in my opinion should address alone, but involves providers of technological solutions like ours," Catherine said in IBM's media briefing on Wednesday, June 4 in Jakarta.

In this case, according to him, the government is responsible for policy preparation. Meanwhile, the private sector, such as IBM, can help in providing the innovation, education, and technology platforms needed to strengthen the system.

"I think what's more important is that when the government builds policies, technology solutions companies like ours will provide infrastructure platforms, as well as digital platforms to overcome these infrastructures," he said.

With the increasingly complex digital threat, cybersecurity must be seen as a long-term investment involving the entire ecosystem from policymakers to technology players.

Catherine added, such collaboration will determine how tough the nation is in facing cyber challenges in the present and future.
