IPhone 17 Gets Bigger Screen, But Still Using Old Chip?

JAKARTA - Apple's iPhone 17, will reportedly come with a larger screen than its predecessor, but unfortunately still uses an old chip. Based on a recent report from well-known analyst Jeff Pu (GF Securities), the iPhone 17 will be equipped with Apple A18 chips, not A19 like its brothers, and only has 8GB RAM, just like the iPhone 16.

This makes the iPhone 17 the weakest model in the iPhone 17 line this year, because the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max are all said to be bringing the A19 chip and 12GB RAM.

Apple is rumored to be expanding the size of the iPhone 17 screen from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, just like the iPhone 17 Pro. While visually more modern and proportional, in terms of performance, many think Apple's decision to keep the A18 chip and 8GB RAM will leave the iPhone 17 behind in terms of AI features and long-term performance.

In fact, according to the report, Apple had previously considered using 12GB of RAM for this basic model. However, the plan appears to be cancelled.

Still Rely On 48MP Camera And IP68 Certification

However, the iPhone 17 will most likely stick to a 48MP main camera like its predecessor and maintain IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.

The big question now is: whether with lower chips and RAM, the iPhone 17 will be left behind in artificial intelligence (AI) performance? It could be that some exclusive AI features are only present in Pro or Air models.

The entire iPhone 17 series is expected to be announced in September 2025, according to Apple's annual schedule. However, Apple fans may get a little leak or teaser at the WWDC 2025 event which will be held on June 9.

Although many are looking forward to major changes, it seems that the iPhone 17 will not be included in Apple's grand plans to change product naming. We'll just have to wait for official information from Apple in the next few weeks.
