Tips On Maintaining Body Cleanliness During Menstruation To Prevent Infections

JAKARTA - Maintaining body hygiene during menstruation is very important to avoid the risk of infection, maintain comfort, and support reproductive health as a whole.

Some things to note include bathing regularly, changing sanitary napkins regularly, and maintaining the feminine area in the right way.

In an interview quoted from the Hindustan Times on, doctor Manjusha Goel, the main consultant in the field of obstetrics and gynecology at CK Birla Hospital, India, said that daily bathing is highly recommended during menstruation. This helps keep the body fresh and clean of sweat and menstrual blood.

"Usually enough to take a shower once a day to maintain cleanliness and comfort. However, if you experience more bleeding, excessive sweating, or leakage, there's no problem bathing more than once," he said.

For days when the blood flow is quite heavy or after physical activity, wetting the body at night is also recommended. This can help reduce unpleasant odors and prevent skin irritation.

Doctor Goel also recommends the use of warm water while bathing because of the calming effect and its ability to increase blood circulation by widening blood vessels. In addition, when cleaning the genital area, just use water or soft and fragrance-free soap.

He emphasized that the vagina has a natural cleaning mechanism, so that the use of soap or internal cleaning can actually interfere with the pH balance and trigger infection.

"Vagina is cleaning herself up, so we just need to gently clean the outside," he explained.

The wipeping technique is also important in hygiene practices. Looking back at it can help prevent the movement of bacteria from the anus area to the urinary tract, which can cause infection.

In addition to bathing and cleaning properly, replacing sanitary napkins every four to six hours is also crucial to prevent excess moisture and bacterial growth. The use of cotton underwear that absorbs sweat is also recommended so that the skin remains dry and avoids irritation.

By applying the right clean habits during menstruation, women can undergo their menstrual period more comfortably and healthily, and avoid the risk of unwanted infections.
