DHF Cases In East Kalimantan More Than 2000 Cases, Balikpapan The Most

The number of cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in East Kalimantan reached 2,210 cases. The data was taken from early 2025 to the latest by the East Kalimantan Health Office.

The head of the East Kalimantan Health Office, Jaya Mualimin, in Samarinda, stated on Sunday that the data was an important reference for local governments to take preventive steps and handle more effective dengue cases.

"We continue to monitor the development of dengue cases throughout East Kalimantan," he said, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday, June 1.

Cumulatively, Balikpapan recorded the highest cases with 602 cases, followed by North Penajam Paser with 409 cases, and Kutai Kartanegara with 407 cases.

Meanwhile, East Kutai reported 252 cases. Other areas such as Samarinda (199 cases), Bontang (130 cases), Paser (85 cases), and West Kutai (71 cases) also showed cases of dengue fever. Berau Regency recorded 49 cases, while Mahakam Ulu had 6 cases.

In terms of death, one case of death each was reported in Kutai Kartanegara, Berau, Balikpapan, Penajam Paser Utara, and East Kutai.

Jaya emphasized the importance of public vigilance, especially in the rainy season. According to him, the rainy season not only increases the breeding of mosquitoes that cause dengue fever, but also needs to be aware of other diseases such as Leptospirosis.

Furthermore, dengue is caused by a virus that is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. DHF cases tend to increase during the rainy season due to the increasing breeding of mosquitoes.

"The prevention includes carrying out 3M Plus, which is draining the bathtub, closing water reservoirs, and recycling used goods, and eradicating Mosquito Nests (PSN)," said Jaya.

In addition, it is also important to avoid mosquito bites with mosquito nets and anti-muak lotions, consider DHF vaccinations, and install anti-bow wire.

The East Kalimantan Health Office continues to urge the public to increase vigilance and implement DHF prevention measures. 3M Plus efforts are the main key in breaking the chain of transmission of dengue fever.

The public is also advised to immediately go to health facilities if they experience symptoms of sudden fever, muscle aches, or red spots on the skin.
