Victims Died As A Result Of Flash Floods Hit Nigeria Reaches 151 People
JAKARTA - The death toll from flash floods that hit Mokwa, a city in the central Nigeria state of Niger, has risen to 151 people.
According to a report from local authorities on Saturday, May 31, quoted by Anadolu via Antara, Spokesperson for the Niger State Disaster Management Agency (NSEMA) Ibrahim Hussaini said flash floods followed heavy rains that flushed the area from Wednesday night to Thursday.
Flash floods triggered by heavy rains caused widespread destruction including sweeping people's homes and public facilities, including roads and two bridges.
The number of victims who died currently reached 151 people. A total of 3,018 people fled, 503 households and 265 houses were affected. Three communities were swept away by the flood," said Hussaini.

Mokwa is known as an important trade route that connects business actors from the southern region with agricultural producers in northern Nigeria.
The impact of flooding in the region has not only caused a humanitarian crisis, but also a significant economic disruption.
In response to the disaster, the Nigerian National Disaster Management Agency (NEMA) held a meeting of stakeholders on Friday in the state of Niger.
The disaster management program with the theme Strengthening Resilience, Increasing Preparedness and Response aims to formulate a long-term strategy to overcome repeated flooding every year.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has ordered NEMA and security forces to strengthen search and rescue efforts in the affected areas, stressing the government's importance of a quick response to this disaster.
