Disconnected Water Network, Pademangan Residents Complain About The Impact Of The Galiran Project
JAKARTA - The clean water distribution network in the RW 08 area, Pademangan District, North Jakarta, was reported to have been cut off due to being hit by heavy equipment used in the water channel construction project. This condition causes water supplies to residents' homes to be disrupted.
One of the local residents, Soyo, said that the heavy equipment in the project accidentally damaged the water distribution pipe belonging to PAM Jaya.
"Clean water pipes were damaged due to being hit by heavy equipment, and had not flowed to houses," he said on Friday, as quoted by ANTARA, May 30.
He added that the incident caused a leak at eight points of clean water pipe networks, spread across RT 1 and RT 3 in the RW 08 area. As a result, the water that had flowed turned cloudy and mixed with wastewater.
"At that time the water that came out was very dirty. It even stopped completely," he explained.
Although now the leak has been repaired and the flow of water returns to normal, Soyo hopes that the project implementers can be more careful in the future and coordinate first with residents and environmental administrators before starting work.
"We hope there will be better communication so that incidents like this don't happen again," he said.

In addition to damage to water networks, this project also has an impact on the activities of local residents. Soyo admitted that it was difficult to run his business because the area in front of his place of business was also affected by the excavation. Access to residents' vehicles was disrupted due to excavations that cut the main road.
"Residents must take a turnaround, even some points become traffic jams," he said.
The head of RW 08, Agus Junaidi, explained that the water channel project was part of the 268 meter long channel normalization program carried out by the North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-dept.
"This work has been running for about two weeks and is targeted to be completed in the next two months," he said.
Agus hopes that the project can be completed on time without disturbing the comfort of further residents.
