Two PWI Groups Agree to Form Joint Committee for Unity Congress

JAKARTA - The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) from the Bandung Congress, Hendry Ch Bangun, and the General Chairperson of the PWI from the Extraordinary Congress (KLB), Zulmansyah Sekedang, agreed on the composition of the Unity Congress Committee, Thursday (29/05/2025), in a follow-up meeting in Jakarta.

The Unity Congress Committee is expected to start working on Monday, June 2, 2025. The Congress Committee, consisting of the Steering Committee (SC) and the Organizing Committee (OC), will prepare and implement the Unity Congress which is scheduled to be held in Jakarta no later than August 30, 2025.

In the new agreement, which is called the "Follow-up to the Jakarta Agreement", the two parties also agreed on the Decree of the Unity Congress Committee. Like the Jakarta Agreement of May 16, this Jakarta agreement was also signed on stamped paper, with Dahlan Dahi, a member of the Press Council, as the mediator.

“There has been one more step of progress in the agreement towards the PWI Unity Congress with the formation of the Steering Committee and Organizing Committee. The Steering Committee and the Organizing Committee can meet next week to discuss the big event for PWI. Of course there are still things to discuss to reach a meeting point, but we are responding to it with a positive tone. With good intentions, God willing, everything will go well,” said Hendry.

“Please, SC and OC, start working for the PWI Unity Congress. We 100 percent believe that SC and OC are trustworthy. There should no longer be any intervention from any party towards SC or OC, and all parties must comply with the decisions of SC and OC. Hopefully all efforts for PWI to reunite will be facilitated and smoothed,” said Zulmansyah.

In the Jakarta Agreement, both parties agreed to form a joint congress committee.

The decree regarding the composition and names of the SC and OC is covered by the Jakarta Agreement dated May 16, 2025 which reads: "The Committee (SC and OC) of the Unity Congress will be jointly drafted and agreed upon by both parties". They will, together, prepare and organize the Unity Congress.

Both parties agreed to discuss the name of one SC member who would be from a neutral party. Although this position is still vacant, both agreed that the SC and OC can work on preparing the congress.
