Ahead Of Eid Al-Adha 9,743 Sacrificial Animal Monitoring Officers Deployed
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) released as many as 9,743 sacrificial animal monitoring officers to ensure the implementation of sacrifices throughout Indonesia runs according to the principles of Safe, Healthy, Utuh, and Halal (ASUH).
"We want to ensure that the sacrificial animals are healthy, free from disease, and the slaughter process meets the health principles of the veterinary community and animal welfare," said Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health (Dirjen PKH) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Suganda in his statement, quoted Thursday, May 29.
The implementation of supervision of sacrificial animals this year focuses on examining documents of Animal Health Certificates (SKKH), ante-mortem and post-mortem, legality of slaughterhouses, as well as guaranteeing the application of veterinary public health principles and animal welfare.
Agung said the need for national sacrificial animals this year is estimated to reach 2,074,269 heads, an increase of 1.98 percent compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the availability of sacrificial animals reached 3,217,397 so that there was a surplus of about 1.14 million heads.
Although the supply is sufficient, he warns of alertness to infectious animal diseases such as mouth and nail disease (PMK), lump disease in the skin (LSD), and anti-extraction. The Ministry of Agriculture has also issued a circular letter of vigilance against zoonosis ahead of Eid al-Adha.
Agung also appealed to sacrificial animals that were not sold not to be returned to their area of origin. Must be cut in slaughterhouses or sold in the area around the seller to prevent potential disease spread.

In addition, it was stated that the need for sacrificial cows for presidential social assistance this year reached 756 heads, which will be distributed to 38 provinces, 514 district/city mosques, the Presidential Palace mosque in the regions, mosques around the president's residence, and Islamic community organizations.
With strict supervision and collaboration across institutions, the Ministry of Agriculture hopes that the implementation of the Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijriah sacrifice can run safely, healthily, and according to the Shari'a.
