Increase EBT Mix Until 2034, PLN Ready To Run The Greenest RUPTL In History
PT PLN (Persero) is ready to carry out the 2025-2034 Electric Power Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) which was officially launched by the Government as a strategic reference for the development of the national electricity system for the next 10 years. In this strategic document, the total addition of power plants over the next 1 decade is 69.5 gigawatts (GW) with the portion of the new and renewable energy mix (EBT) reaching 76% as well as making the most green 2023-2024 RUPTL to date.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia said, the 2025-2034 RUPTL is an important reference for national electricity which will become Indonesia's basis for achieving the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target in 2060. The ratification of the RUPTL also shows the Government's commitment to realizing energy sovereignty and energy transition in the country.
"If we are disciplined in carrying out it, then 2034 has exceeded the target of the RUKN (National Electricity General Plan) for renewable energy. The important thing is that we are consistent," Bahlil quoted his written statement, Jakarta, May 29.
In this latest RUPTL, Bahlil continued, the Government determined the portion of the EBT mix and energy storage system (storage) to 76 percent or 52.9 GW of the total additional generating capacity consisting of a solar power plant of 17.1 GW, 11.7 GW of water power, 5.2 GW of geothermal, 0.9 GW of bioenergy, and 0.5 GW of nuclear energy. The green plant is also supported by an energy storage system of 10.3 GW consisting of a pumped storage of 6 GW of hydroelectric power plants (PLTA) and a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 4.3 GW.
Meanwhile, the fossil energy portion only covers about 24 percent of the total additional capacity consisting of gas-fueled plants of 10.3 GW and coal of 6.3 GW.
"We are all doing this by taking into account, considering the level of our economic growth. So we have also calculated electricity per capita carefully," said Bahlil.
Bahlil explained that the development of the generating capacity will be carried out in two stages. In the first five years, there will be an additional capacity of 27.9 GW consisting of 12.2 GW EBT, namely 3.2 GW of Hydroelectric Power Plants, 6 GW of Solar Power Plants, 1.6 GW of Wind Power Plants, 0.9 GW of Geothermal Power Plants, 0.5 GW of Bioenergy Power Plants, and the construction of 3 GW of energy storage systems. In addition, the addition of 9.2 GW of Gas Power Plants, and 3.5 GW of Low Steam Power Plants of emissions from projects that have entered the construction stage has also been carried out.

"Then entering the next five years, out of a total of 41.6 GW, the plan to increase the capacity of the generator, the EBT mix and energy storage will support 37.7 GW or about 90% of the total capacity. While the remaining 3.9 GW comes from fossil-based plants," Bahlil explained.
In line with this, the President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, also emphasized PLN's readiness to implement the greenest RUPTL in this history. His party is committed to increasing the capacity and reliability of renewable energy-based electricity systems that are efficient and affordable by optimizing the use of domestic natural resources.
"As a State-Owned Enterprise engaged in the electricity sector, PLN is ready to carry out the Government's directives through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in carrying out the 2025-2034 RUPTL. Through this greenest RUPTL, PLN is committed to presenting a reliable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable electrical system in line with Asta Cita Presiden Prabowo Subianto," concluded Darmawan.
