DPR Asks For Handling The Case Of The Death Of UGM Student Argo Ericho To Be Free From Intervention
JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Abdullah highlighted the case of the death of a student at the Faculty of Law (FH) Gajah Mada University (UGM), Argo Ericho Afandhi who was hit by a fellow UGM student in a BMW car last weekend. He reminded that the legal handling of the case is free from intervention and must be based on justice, not social status.
Moreover, Abdullah said, this case received public attention on social media because it was suspected that the handling of the case was not transparent. The reason is, the BMW car driver, who is a UGM student majoring in the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Chistiano Pengarepenta Pengidahen Tarigan, is said to have an important influence. Christiano's father's social status was also linked to the handling of the case.
"The handling of the Argo case must be in favor of justice, not social status," Abdullah said, Tuesday, May 27.
As is known, this unfortunate incident occurred on Jalan Palagan, Student Army, Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta on Saturday, May 24, in the early hours of the morning. Argo, who was riding a Vario motorbike, was hit by a BMW driven by Christiano.
The BMW driven by Christiano was known to have swayed after hitting the victim and also hitting a Honda CRV parked on the east side of the road.
The results of the police's analysis or provisional suspicion, Christiano, allegedly lacked concentration while driving his car so that he hit Argo and his motorbike, which were turning around in front of him.
Abdullah also highlighted the large number of netizens who doubted the credibility of the handling of the Argo death case. This is because the police did not detain Christiano so that it was considered odd.
In addition, netizens also questioned a police statement saying Christiano was not drunk or negative for drugs and alcohol during an accident.
Social media residents were even more furious with the news that Christiano had given money to Argo's family for around Rp. 1 billion for treatment and others, but the money was also referred to as a "sgook" so that this accident case was resolved amicably.
To stop the growing assumptions in the public, Abdullah, who is a member of the House Law Enforcement Commission, urged the police handling this case to provide clarification.
"And the police must answer all public questions that are considered odd," said the legislator from the Central Java VI electoral district.
