Chelsea And MU Await Liam Delap's Decision
JAKARTA - Liam Delap's future is in the spotlight after the emergence of serious interest from the two Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United. Although it is reported that United have reached an agreement with Ipswich Town, the final decision is now in the hands of the player who is also being targeted by Chelsea.
Delap, who scored 12 Premier League goals with Ipswich last season, will most likely leave the club after the team's relegation to Championship. The young British forward is rumored to have a release clause of 30 million pounds (around Rp 661 billion), which makes him an attractive target in the transfer market this summer.
According to ESPN reports, Manchester United has notified Ipswich of their intention to activate the clause and has even agreed on personal terms with Delap agents. However, the striker has yet to make a final decision amid an aggressive approach from other clubs, including Chelsea.
British media, the Daily Mail, even called Chelsea now "a step ahead" of United in the hunt for Delap's signature.
Chelsea have an advantage in the form of a Champions League ticket next season, something Manchester United cannot offer. This situation is getting more and more difficult for United, who reportedly have secured Matheus Cunha's transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers at a cost of 62.5 million pounds, making their transfer budget even tighter.
United manager Ruben Amorim acknowledged the limited current club funds, mainly due to his failure to qualify for the Champions League and the strict rules of Financial Fair Play.

"Without the Champions League, we don't need a big squad. We can control the squad better, and we have plans to strengthen the existing team and develop players from the academy," said Amorim, who will now only be funded by about 70 percent of the club's total revenue last season.
Our spending will not change much. Because of Financial Fair Play rules, even if we qualify for the Champions League, we still can't do much. So we are ready to deal with this situation," he added.
Now all eyes are on Liam Delap, who has an important decision in determining the direction of his next career amid the rivalry between two elite English clubs.
