Jember The Second Largest PMI Contributor, Minister Karding Prepares A Special Program
JAKARTA - Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding held a meeting with the Regent of Jember Muhammad Fawait at the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI), Jakarta on Monday, May 26.
During the meeting, Minister Karding and Regent Fawait discussed the Jember area, which is the second largest Indonesian migrant worker (PM) pocket in East Java.
Minister Karding emphasized the existence of an integrated vocational school in Jember for training centers for prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI). Later, the integrated vocational school will be used for CPMIs who want to hone skills and languages.
One integrated vocational model. This means that this vocational school, the vocational school, includes certification, in which there is language and the most important thing is that we adjust the module to the intended country," said Karding, quoted on Tuesday, May 27.
In addition to integrated vocational schools, Minister Karding also discussed the 'Gold Migrant Village' program. He encouraged the program because Jember was the second largest contributor to Indonesian migrant workers in East Java.
"So Mr. Regent that we can develop. One, Migrant Gold Village, so later we will work together to become several pockets of the village, we will make it the 'Gold Migrant Village'," he said
Therefore, Karding plans to open an Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Post (P4MI) in Jember. Because, until now there has been no P4MI operating in Jember which incidentally accounts for Indonesian migrant workers.
"About the post (P4MI), I think the priority is yes, the sooner the better. Jember is our priority, Jember is a pocket. So we have to focus on it, so there must be P4MI, the service post," said Karding.
On the other hand, Regent Fawait also paid special attention to Minister Karding's plan to open an Indonesian Migrant Worker Service Post (P4MI) in Jember. Regent Fawait said the post was needed because of the large number of Indonesian migrant workers from Jember.
"We ask that P4MI Service Posts for Migrant Workers Protection, hopefully Jember will also be given, Mr. Minister. Because today it is in the next district, in Banyuwangi. The number is not yet there, Mr. Minister, whose PMI is much bigger, Jember. Hopefully Jember will be given the opportunity to do that," said Regent Fawait.

In addition, Regent Fawait welcomed Minister Karding's plan regarding integration vocational schools to hone skills (skills) and foreign languages. This was done, said Regent Fawait, so that the quality of migrant workers could be better.
So we ask that there are trainings, both language and so on that can be placed in Jember from the ministry. Hopefully, the quality of migrant workers in Jember district can be better. So that they can become heroes of Indonesian foreign exchange. Not only in countries like Malaysia, but hopefully in other developed countries," said Regent Fawait.
