Failed Merger And Close Factory, Nissan Ready To Lego Head Office In Yokohama

JAKARTA Nissan, an automotive giant from Japan, is struggling to get out of difficult times in the global market. After failing to merge with Honda and deciding to close two factories in Japan as well as several facilities in other countries, Nissan is now taking a rather surprising step: considering selling its headquarters in Yokohama.

According to a Nikkei Asia report, Tuesday, May 27, Nissan's iconic headquarters building is estimated to be worth around 100 billion yen, equivalent to Rp11.3 trillion. Funds from the sale of these assets are planned to be used to cover large costs related to restructuring, including reducing production facilities.

The building, which has been used as Nissan's head office since 2009 after moving from Tokyo, also has a vehicle gallery that is often a public attraction. However, the building is now on the list of assets to be removed before the end of the fiscal year ending in March 2026.

Nissan memang tengah melakukan restrukturisasi besar-besaran.

"We plan to cover up the cost of restructuring through asset sales," said Ivan briefly.

In the midst of this difficult situation, news emerged that Nissan was exploring a partnership with fellow Japanese automotive manufacturer, Toyota. Although there is no certainty, a number of Toyota officials are reported to have opened communication with Nissan to explore the possibility of a strategic alliance.

Nissan has yet to provide official comments on the discourse of this partnership. Meanwhile, Toyota is still reviewing the report before giving a public statement.
