Finland Summons Russian Ambassador In The Aftermath Of 2 Military Planes Violating Airspace
JAKARTA - Finland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) summoned Russia's ambassador in Helsinki over alleged violations of Finnish airspace that occurred last week.
Finland, a NATO member, previously said it believed two Russian military aircraft entered its airspace off the coast of Porvoo in the southern part of the Nordic country.
Finnish Border Guards are currently investigating the incident.
"The ambassador was informed that Finland was taking the alleged territorial violation seriously," the Finnish Foreign Ministry said in a statement to Reuters on Monday, May 26.
The ambassador indicated he would convey the message, the ministry said without elaborating. The Russian Embassy in Helsinki did not immediately respond to a request for response regarding this summons.
