Dredge The Ciliwung River Flow In Tanah Abang, Pramono Makes Sure There Are No Evictions

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reviewed the dredging of mud in the Ciliwung River in Kebon Melati Village, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. In this dredging project, Pramono emphasized that he would not carry out evictions to widen the river.

Because, according to him, the layout of settlements in the area is quite dense. Moreover, the flow of rivers in Kebon Melati is also adjacent to the railroad line. So, Pramono assessed that widening times is not a priority to be done.

"If (the width of this time) is opened, it will definitely not work, it doesn't even help to solve it. The settlements will definitely pile up with others, so what we are doing now is that we make the river neater, more beautiful, more pleasing to see," said Pramono at the location, Monday, May 26.

Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government will only dredge and arrange so that the flow of water from the Ciliwung River in Kebon Melati can be smoother. Given, the area is rarely hit by floods.

"The only problem is that not all tools like this can enter. So there must be a special tool, what is it called, a spider. So it's like a mini excavator so that it can go inside. Because almost in some sections there are already buildings," said Pramono

In addition, the residential problem experienced by Kebon Melati residents is that sanitation is no longer feasible. Therefore, Pramono ordered his staff to build communal bathing and washing facilities (MCK) to support the sanitation needs of residents.

"We have offered to the residents, we will make MCK communal, especially for the elderly so that they can (facilitated to the toilet) sit down. So we prepare to sit down with those who are not. But basically we ask for treatment to be carried out together," he explained.

Pramono revealed that the DKI Provincial Government will again carry out settlement arrangements as done in Kebon Melati to other areas.

"If this can be done, the government will help beautify, including we paint with a more interesting color. Thus, this place is a place where residents can live well," he added.
